Petra | The Monastery

Ad-Deir, or the Monastery, is one of Petra’s most iconic monuments, carved directly into the sandstone cliffs of Jordan’s rugged mountains. Dating to the 1st century BCE, the structure’s monumental façade, reached by climbing over 800 steps, reflects the Nabataeans’ architectural mastery and religious devotion. In 2025, with the support of Iron Mountain, CyArk produced a Tapestry experience highlighting Ad-Deir and the challenges the site faces due to climate change and flash flooding, which threaten its preservation and accessibility for future generations.
